“My Trevor James Signature Custom alto allows me to play all styles of music with the same clarity, tone and execution day in and day out. Whether I’m in a practice room or concert hall, from top to bottom this horn sings….”
Brian E. Miller is a native of Kinston, NC. He developed a strong passion for music at an early age having been first exposed to Gospel melodies at his childhood church home. By the time he graduated from Kinston High School in 1996, he played saxophone, piano, tuba, trumpet, bass clarinet and valve trombone. From there, Brian entered North Carolina Central University to study with Dr. Ira Wiggins. While there, he worked with many notables in the jazz community – including trumpet legend Clark Terry, James Moody, Slide Hampton, Dick Oatts, Grady Tate and Nicholas Payton. Before graduation in 2001, Brian also traveled to Europe and performed at the Montreux and Vienne Jazz Festivals. Brian also performed for President Bill Clinton at the White House twice and recorded his original composition “Desmond Street” with the world-renowned North Carolina Central University Jazz Ensemble.
As a professional, Brian has performed with vocalists Eve Cornelious, Kim Burrell, Nnenna Freelon, Phil Perry and most recently Dee Dee Bridgewater. He has also shared the stage with the likes of Terrence Blanchard, John Faddis, Branford Marsalis, T.S. Monk Jr., Tim Warfield, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Vincent Gardner and saxophonist Frank Foster. He has also performed at Blues Alley with the likes of trumpeters Tom Browne and Al Strong and vocalist Yolanda Rabun. Brian is an original member of the John Brown Quintet and both the John Brown Big Band and Little Big Band.
Brian plays a Signature Custom RAW XS Alto, and we are excited to have him in the Trevor James family.
